Saturday July 13th

Posted on Monday, 13th July, 2009

What a great day for racing!! Started out a little rainy, but it was great! Hot in the sun, cool in the shade. I didn’t qualify too well as I got too high in the loose dirt, 11th fastest. I finished 5th in the heat, but I lost my clutch. I came in and we were talking about a plan. We were loosing oil from a bolt that came out that held the TO bearing on. Lon made a decision to pull the TRANNY!! Lon, Chet, and Bobby pulled the tranny, we ground all of the tires, reinstalled the tranny and were ready to race in 35 minutes!! Not too bad. While running the feature, I was running 9th or 10th and lost 4th gear. The transmission kept kicking out of gear…. So I pulled in and finished 17th…

Races Cancelled on America’s Birthday!!!

Unfortunately the rain has doomed our plans to race today…… We have checked all tracks around, all cancelled.

July 4th WEEKEND!!!

Posted on Thursday, 2nd July, 2009

Lon, Bobby, Chet, and I pulled the racecar out of the trailer last night. We changed the oil and tightened the throwout bearing on the transmission. We made approximately 14 adjustments to the car to get the weight distribution where we wanted it. I think we may have something here…. It’s time to try our engineering on the track. Saturday night @ Kamp Motor Speedway!

I’m too old for this…..

So at the last minute we jumped and ran to VCS in Danville Illinois to race.  Jennifer, Billy and the kids were up for the weekend.  Well it was all clear on the drive, but once we got to Danville, it started raining.  They did a great job getting the track ready as it was a MESS from the rain!

We hotlapped to a very tacky track, so the car pushed some in 3 and 4.  We decided to leave the setup alone for the heat race and see since we have been loose all year.  We were running 2nd in the heat when I thought I was losing a wheel.  I slowed down and 1 car got past me, so I finished 3rd in the heat.  After watching a multiple wreck Winged Sprint feature, we were up.  With the car still pushing, I had Lon take one turn out of the LR and drop the RF tire pressure by 2 pounds.  We ran the feature and I finished 5th.  But getting home at 5:30am, WOW!!!  I’m too old for 5:30am!

New Dirt Track Racing Forum

Posted on Thursday, 4th June, 2009

With Kamp’s forum shut down due to negligence of idiot posters, I have created the Indiana Dirt Track Racing message board.  http://indianadirttrack.getphpbb.com/ Please feel free to visit and share ideas on this site as before.  There is too much beneficial information that gets transferred to not have a board.  Enjoy!

How’d we do???

Posted on Monday, 1st June, 2009

We qualified 5th fastest.  The track was tacky when we qualified, but the Sprints blew all of the traction off of the track.  So come heat race time, I was loose, way loose!!  I was running 3rd until the final turn, and Andy Hall got under me, so I finished 4th.  We reduced the stagger from 2.5″ to 0.5″ for the feature.  Still loose.  Need to adjust the suspension now.  We will get it back on the scales to see where we are off.  The new floater is 3 inches narrower than the old rear end.  So give us a week or so and we will be in the top 5!!!

Saturday Night

We finally have the car settled down.  We put a triple disc clutch in the car and got 2nd in the heat race.  We started 5th in the feature, got loose on the 2nd lap, spun in the front stretch and was hit in the rear axle.  I went into the pit and had a new wheel put on, but they black flagged me for a broken axle.  The axle was bent, not broken.  So in 2 laps, a $175 wheel and $125 tire are trashed…  The rear end still looks okay, but the trailing arms are toast.  Back to the drawing board.  Fix it and go racin’!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHESTER!!

Really.Really.Really Bent.

We put the new clutches in the car tonight.  After testing out the clutches, Lon and Chet noticed the rear end was bent pretty bad.  The axle is bent where the wheel moves approximately 1″ back and forth….  At 6600 RPM’s, that is going to be fairly noticable………..  Can we ever catch a break????

Bent parts??? There’s always a reason

We unloaded the car tonight and got eveything ready for Saturday except the new clutches.  There was a little more damage than we thought.  We have been running a bent A-arm all year.  We repaired the rear trailing arms, replaced the rear brake caliper line, fixed the shocks, bled the brakes, and changed a few tires.  We will be installing the clutches tomorrow, cleaning the trailer, and make a couple extra trailing arms.  THIS WEEKEND IS $1000 to WIN!!
